Police tape off city centre street and casualty rushed to hospital after 'disturbance'

Emergency services swarmed a city centre street this morning following reports of a 'disturbance'. Police taped off part of Withy Grove, near the Printworks and opposite Manchester Arndale, for several hours earlier today (June 25).

Officers were called out to the scene at around 5.10am this morning following reports of a disturbance. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) joined Greater Manchester Police at the scene.

At least six police vehicles were seen in attendance, alongside an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle from NWAS. Police taped off an area of Withy Grove outside the City Booze off licence, as well as the junction at Garden Street.

GMP says 'a number of people' have been arrested following the incident, while a male has been taken to hospital for treatment. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the man being treated at the scene before being removed from the area by ambulance.

Further details about the nature of the incident have not yet been released, while the casualty's condition is not currently known. It is understood his condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Tape was removed from Withy Grove after 10am this morning (Manchester Evening News)

Part of Withy Grove was fully closed off at around 6am this morning, before the cordon was mostly lifted. A police presence remained at the scene until shortly after 10am this morning.

Officers removed tape in the area at that time, almost five hours since first arriving at the scene. A crime scene investigation van was also in attendance, with forensics having checked out the area.
