Police tape off alleyway near Costcutter after 'report of shooting' as officers comb area for evidence

An alley is taped off after police received 'reports of a shooting' on Friday evening.

The alleyway between Bain Street and Chorley Road in Swinton remains cordoned off today (August 15) as police conduct a 'search for evidence'.

The reports of the shooting are 'unconfirmed' at this stage, police have noted.

There have been no reported injuries so far, police added, but officers are preserving the scene as investigations continue.

Greater Manchester Police said: "Last night we received an unconfirmed report of a firearm discharged near to the alleyway at Costcutter, Chorley Road, Swinton.

"At present officers have preserved the scene and are currently conducting a search for any evidence.

"There have been no reported injuries."

It is not yet known why the alley has been cordoned off (Manchester Evening News)

Officers are marking the cordon with police cars and have been seen walking around the scene.
