Police are talking to a person of interest after the fifth hammer attack on CTA property this summer.

The victim, a 50-year-old man, was hit in his head with an object — possibly a hammer — around 5 a.m. Tuesday on a Red Line near the Clark/Division station, Chicago police said.

He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Detectives were speaking with a person of interest. Charges have not been filed as of Tuesday morning.

Police issued an alert last week after four other hammer attacks on CTA property.

They happened:

  • Aug. 18 at the Red Line stop in the 900 block of West Addison Street 900 block of West Addison Street
