Police swoop to arrest man suspected of sending racist tweets about Liverpool's Mo Salah

Police have swooped to arrest a man suspected of sending racist tweets about LFC's Mo Salah.

The posts caused outrage on social media from both Liverpool and Everton fans who were shocked by the behaviour.

Everton slammed the shocking tweets from a so-called Toffees supporter earlier this week which included racist slurs and pictures of the Egyptian forward.

Everton bosses immediately issued a statement assuring fans the messages had been flagged up to the "proper authorities."

Liverpool and Everton fans also united to condemn the racist abuse and joined in deploring the web trolling.

And today police confirmed they had arrested a man from Waterloo suspected of being behind the tweets and other offences.

A police spokesman said the 32-year-old was arrested this morning.

He is now being questioned by detectives.

The spokesman said: "A man has been arrested after an offensive tweet was posted in relation to a Liverpool footballer.

"Following enquiries a 32-year-old man from Waterloo was arrested shortly before 9.30am today on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, and obstructing an officer in the execution of their duty."

The incident comes in the same week that Blues fans showed their support for new signing Moise Kean who suffered racist abuse in Italy.

Everton fan group County Road Bobblers  have started a campaign on JustGiving , and raised well over £3,000 for a new banner to adorn Goodison to show him that racism is not tolerated at his new home.
