Police swoop on street protests over sex offender claim in Ayrshire estate

A number of police swooped on an Ayrshire street after protests broke out over claims that a sex offender was living in the area.

Cops attended the incident on Barward Road in Galston last week.

Organised by an online child protection team, a video posted on social media shows a house in the town and many residents gathered in the street can be heard shouting abuse at the house with one person even using a megaphone.

Police said that they were called to reports of a crowd outside a house in the town just after 7pm on Friday, September 18 and engaged with the group before they dispersed.

Officials say no arrests were made.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 7.05pm on Friday, September 18, police were called to a report of a crowd gathering outside a house in Barward Road, Galston.

"Officers attended and engaged with the group who later dispersed.  No arrests were made."

A spokesperson from the Team Shades group, who organised the protest, said: "Team Shades encourages parents to check their kids' devices daily and if they have any problems in doing so, we can be contacted."
