Police swoop on street in cocaine and weapons crackdown

Police discovered a stun-gun disguised as a knuckle duster during a raid on an address in Southport yesterday.

As part of Operation Target – a wider operation to tackle antisocial behaviour and drug dealing – Merseyside Police recovered a stun-gun, a baton, and a quantity of white powder as well as drugs paraphernalia when carrying out a warrant on an address.

A 43-year-old man from Lawson Street, Southport was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, theft and drugs offences and taken into custody.

Elsewhere in the town, police arrested the driver and passenger of a VW Golf at around 10 am after they were seen “acting suspiciously” on London Street.

The 21-year-old driver, and 37-year-old passenger, were taken into custody after they were found to be in possession of “suspected cocaine, cash and numerous phones”.

The spokesperson added: "Officers spoke to the driver, a 21-year-old man and the passenger, a 37-year-old man.

"They were both searched and found in possession of suspected cocaine, cash and numerous phones. They have been taken to custody for further investigation.

"High visibility patrols also remain around the Southport and Birkdale areas."

“We will always act on this information with the aim of bringing dangerous people to justice, taking weapons off our streets and taking drugs out of circulation.”

"A warrant was also carried out at an address on Lawson St where a 43 year old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, theft and drugs offences after officers recovered a stun-gun Taser disguised as a knuckle duster, a baton, a quantity of white powder which is yet to be identified as well as drugs paraphernalia. "He has been taken to custody." Elsewhere on London St, plain clothed officers spotted a VW Golf acting suspiciously.
