Police swoop on Liverpool street after shots fired at flat

Police have descended on a Liverpool street after reports of a shooting last night.

Officers were called to Kirkdale at around 12.24am on Sunday, July 12, to reports that shots had been fired at a flat on Fountains Road.

When they arrived damage was found above the front door of the property which was consistent with a firearm discharge.

No one is believed to have been injured during the incident.

A large police cordon has been put in place on Fountains Road which remains taped off today.

Photos taken at the scene show several police vehicles parked up beside the cordon which has been erected across the length of the road.

Crime Scene Investigators have been seen entering a property and are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene.

House-to-house enquiries are currently underway and high visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area.

Detective inspector Tara Denn, from Merseyside Police, said: "An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around Fountains Road shortly before, or after the incident, to contact us.

"Information they have could be vital. I am particularly interested in talking to anyone who may have seen males, in dark clothing in the area shortly before the incident took place."

Anyone with information is asked to DM @merpolcc, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
