Police swoop on Kilmarnock street following claims that sex offenders stay there

Police were called to a Kilmarnock street twice in one night following claims that two sex offenders were staying in the area.

Cops were called to a so-called 'peaceful protest' in MacDougall Place in the town at around 6.30pm on Saturday with abuse being shouted at the property.

Officers were then back in the street an hour and 20 minutes later after another protest broke out at a nearby property.

The event was streamed live on social media by an online protection team – Team Shades.

In both instances, police can be seen leading individuals from the properties in question before being driven away in police vans.

Police confirmed today that officers engaged with the groups at both incidents and that no arrests were made on the night.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Reports were received of crowds gathered on MacDougall Place in Kilmarnock around 6.30pm and again at 7.50pm on Saturday, October 3.

"Officers attended and engaged with the groups on both occasions. The gatherings subsequently dispersed and no arrests were made."
