Police swoop on Glasgow canal after firearm discovered sparking investigation

Police have swooped on a Glasgow canal after a firearm was discovered in water.

The alarm was raised around 12.20pm near Applecross Street yesterday.

They have now launched an investigation into the incident.

It's believed the weapon was fished out the Forth and Clyde Canal during a clean-up operation in  north Glasgow.

A number of weapons were found in the haul (Hamiltonhill Claypits LNR)

A number of other items were discovered including machetes and knives.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: Police were called around 12.20pm on Saturday, 22 August, 2020, after what appears to be a firearm was recovered from the canal near Applecross Street, Glasgow.

"Officers attended and the item was made safe.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
