Police swoop on 'gathering' in affluent Swansea area on day new rules were announced and fine guests

Some of the guests at a house party in an affluent area of Swansea have been fined after police turned up on Saturday night following reports of a gathering there.

Two police vans and a car were spotted in Caswell Road, Langland, on Saturday night. The road leads to Caswell beach and is populated by a number of large, mostly detached properties

When the party took place, Wales was still in alert level three, although it had been announced earlier that day that Wales would be entering new tougher level four restrictions from midnight, because of a new, far more infectious strain of coronavirus.

However, even at level three, the rules state that you must not meet with anybody outside of your household or extended household in a private home, or garden, including your own. Level four rules means you can now only leave home if you have "a reasonable excuse."

Police said that during their visit to the property five people were handed fixed penalty notices for breach coronavirus regulations, which carry a fine of £60 for a single breach, a figure that doubles each time there is a further offence.
