Police swoop on car after noticing 'suspicious behaviour'

Two suspected drug dealers were arrested as police swooped in Southport town centre.

At around 9am this morning, police on patrol on Bold Street, at its junction with Booth Street, noticed suspicious behaviour in a black Vauxhall Astra.

Dramatic photographs taken by neighbours showed how police had responded to block off the vehicle and prevent any escape.

Two men in the vehicle were detained and following a search, a number of bags of white powder were seized.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “Two men, aged 28 and 36, both from Southport, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug (cocaine). They have been taken into custody for questioning."
