Police swoop on Albert Dock to man seen dangling on water's edge

A convoy of fire engines, police and ambulance vehicles were sent to The Royal Albert Dock this morning after man was spotted at the water's edge.

Several police cars and fire engines and an ambulance could be seen at the landmark waterfront from around 7.30am.

And today Merseyside Police confrmed the emergency response came after a man was seen on the edge of the water at Hartley Quay by a concerned member of the public who called 999.

A police spokesman said trained officers spoke to the 64-year-old man on arrival as fire, police and ambulance officials waited in the wings.

The emergency services could be seen stationed close to the Merseyside Maritime Museum and Diner bus.

Witnesses said the man was helped into an ambulance around 9.30am and police confirmed he had been taken to hospital.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "Merseyside Police can confirm we were called to the Albert Dock following a report of a concern for safety received this morning.

"Shortly after 7.40am a member of the public reported that a man was sitting on the edge of the water in Hartley Quay. 

"The 64-year-old man was spoken to by trained officers and emergency services were are at the scene. "

She added: "Following the concern for safety the man, we can confirm the man has now been taken to hospital to be assessed."
