Police swoop after Kirkby front door blasted in street shooting

A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Kirkby.

The 21-year-old was questioned after a home on Whitefield Drive was hit by gunfire on Monday.

It was the first shooting reported to police in the town in more than a year.

No-one was injured in the attack, which saw a single shot hit the front door of a house.

Merseyside Police today confirmed an arrest was made in connection with the investigation on Thursday.

The suspect has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: “Our streets are made safer with every arrest we make in connection with firearms and our arrest yesterday shows that we will not tolerate weapons and those who use them to create fear in our communities.

“We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will take action and put those responsible before the courts.”
