Police swarm vehicle on M62 after pursuit from house in north Leeds

A dramatic police operation saw a car seized just off the M62 last night, following reports of suspicious activity outside a house in north Leeds.

Witnesses described seeing eight police cars surround two vehicles at Ainley Top - the main motorway junction for Huddersfield - at around 7.30pm.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed the reason for the operation in a statement.

A spokesman said: "The vehicle was seized under road traffic legislation after earlier reports of suspicious activity at an address on The Fairway in Leeds where a number of men were seen to get out of a blue Skoda and enter the driveway of a property, before being disturbed and making away.

"Enquiries remain ongoing."

Last night other motorists in the area told ExaminerLive road users were forced to make their way around the obstacle, causing significant congestion.

Images from the scene showed a queue of police vehicles with flashing lights - including 4x4s - blocking one lane of the roundabout's exit to the M62.
