Police swarm Mexican takeaway after reports of gunman

Armed police swooped on a Mexican takeaway in Bootle last night after reports of a man seen with a firearm .

Five armed police vehicles and a dog car were sent to Hawthorne Road at around 9pm following the reports.

An eyewitness said it looked like a "number of youths" were detained at the premises of the Real Taste takeaway.

Police cars and an unmarked vehicle could be seen blocking the carriageway.

A police spokesperson said: "We received a report at 8.55pm last night, Sunday 21 July, that a male had been spotted in the Bootle area in possession of a firearm.

"Officers attended the area and stopped a 21 year-old man on Bedford Road.

"No weapons were recovered. A search of the surrounding area was also negative and the incident was stood down."
