Forensic cops swarm Greenock in attempted murder probe as man arrested

Police have swarmed Greenock and arrested a man after launching an attempted murder probe.

A 50-year-old man has been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the incident.

It comes after cops were spotted near Norfolk Road yesterday morning at around 9.30am after reports of a disturbance.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection.

He is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday, 18 October, 2021.

Detectives were seen investigating the area erecting a forensic tent.

Officers cordoned off the area as their probe continued as teams hazmat suits were also spotted.

Residents were left stunned by the sudden investigations and took pictures of the scene.

Police Scotland said: "A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with disturbances in Greenock and is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday, 18 October, 2021.

“The incidents happened around 9.30am on Saturday, 16 October, in Burns Road, Cambridge Road and Norfolk Road in the town.

“A 50-year-old man was seriously injured in Norfolk Road at the junction with Broadford Terrace.

“He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where his condition is described as critical.”
