Police suspect taxi driver attack in West Denton was a possible hate crime

A Newcastle taxi driver was targeted by thugs who damaged his vehicle and fled the scene.

Police are treating the incident in West Denton as a possible hate crime.

Officers say they were called to a disturbance on Dayshield at around 10pm on Thursday night.

The victim was not injured but was left shaken by the incident.

Northumbria Police is now appealing for witnesses to help them with their investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At this stage, police are treating the incident as a possible hate crime and enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 1188 110719 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
