Police suspect motorcyclist of carrying out drive-by shootings outside Whyalla homes

SA Police are investigating each incident, but believe they are linked. (ABC News: Michael Clements)

South Australian police are investigating two drive-by shootings in Whyalla that occurred within minutes of one another early this morning.

In both cases, shots were fired into homes in the South Australian regional city but no-one was injured during either incident, with police now searching for a motorcyclist suspected of being the gunman.

The first shooting occurred in the suburb of Whyalla Playford on Rundall Avenue, where police were called just after 1:20am.

A resident reported hearing a motorbike take off after a bullet was shot through his front window.

About 10 minutes later, police were called to nearby Elliott Street after residents reported a shot had been fired into a house.

"Occupants had allegedly observed a man aged in his 20s, riding a red Honda dirt bike, with a white dirt-bike-style helmet with a camera mounted on it riding from the scene," police said in a statement.

Crime Scene officers are examining each scene, and police have said the shootings are believed to be linked and targeted.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
