Police surround street over fears for woman's safety in house

A 25 year old man was arrested in Birkenhead today after police were called to a house over fears for a woman's safety.

Merseyside Police confirmed they had attended a house at the Woodlands in Birkenhead on the Wirral at around 1pm today where a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, affray and obstruction of a police officer.

A video posted on social media showed a large police presence in a street identified in the post as The Woodlands, with multiple police cars, some with flashing lights and several police officers visible.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Officers attended at a house on The Woodlands in Birkenhead, Wirral, at 1pm today, Friday 16th July, following concern for a woman inside the property.

"A 25 year-old man who was also at the property was arrested on suspicion of affray, obstructing a police officer and possession of an offensive weapon. The woman was not injured.

"The man is currently in custody where he will be questioned by officers."
