Police in riot gear surround Kirkcaldy block of flats during ongoing incident

Police in Fife surrounded a block of flats in Kirkcaldy earlier this afternoon.

A man was arrested after officers followed him to the address at Earn Road.

They had been alerted to reports of a man being attacked on Lawson Street earlier that day.

The alleged assailant had run off, armed with an offensive weapon to the block of flats.

Eye witnesses report seeing at least 15 officers and a number of police vehicles at the scene.

One passerby told Edinburgh Live: "It's all very strange, there is a huge police presence in Kirkcaldy surrounding this block of flats. At least 15 officers."

Officers on scene advised onlookers to stand clear of the building.

A number of cops could be seen dressed in full riot gear speaking to a resident at a first floor window.

A police spokesman said: "Around 12:45pm on Sunday, 21 June 2020, police received a report a man had been attacked in Lawson Street, Kirkcaldy.

"Officers attended and were advised the attacker, armed with an offensive weapon, had run off. Officers conducted a search of the area and located the man, within a property, in Earn Road. Specially trained officers negotiated with the man and he was later arrested. Enquiries are ongoing."
