Police surround Aer Lingus plane as it lands at Manchester Airport

Police surrounded a plane as it arrived at Manchester Airport this morning.

Officers boarded the Aer Lingus flight from Belfast City Airport in order to speak to a "person of interest" - as Belfast Live reports.

A passenger on the plane detailed how the pilot informed them of the police incident as soon as they landed.

They told Belfast Live: "As soon as we landed at Manchester, the pilot came on the intercom, telling us that police would be meeting the plane, and would be boarding the plane to speak to a person of interest.

"Several police vehicles met the plane close to the terminal and they boarded the plane.

"Six men accompanied police out of the plane, and a few minutes later the rest of the passengers were allowed to disembark the plane."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed passengers were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act, but no arrests were made.

A spokesperson said: "Six male passengers were searched under the misuse of drugs act but no further action was taken. No drugs were located."
