Sub-inspector arrested for extortion at 3 Pune eateries

PUNE: The Mundhwa police on Wednesday arrested sub inspector Milan Karkute on the charge of extorting money from three eateries while in uniform.

According to a statement, Karkute was on leave from August 21 to 24 when he went to a restaurant, picked up a fight with the manager and demanded money. When restaurant manager Maruti Gore checked with the Mundhwa police if Karkute was posted there, it was found that he was posted with the Pimpri Chinchwad police.

“Gore told the police that Karkute also demanded money from two more eateries in Kalyaninagar. We will verify this information,” said Pune DCP (zone V) Namrata Patil.
