Police stumble across Tasers, cash, drugs at home near Wollongong

Demi Mauro was refused bail at Wollongong Local Court on Monday.

A police chase has inadvertently uncovered an alleged stash of drugs, Tasers, ID cards and more than $20,000 in cash at a home near Wollongong.

Demi Mauro, 28, today pleaded not guilty to drug and weapon offences following a search of her Mangerton unit on Wednesday.

The court heard officers were on patrol when they chased a man to Ms Mauro's apartment complex.

Officers spoke to Ms Mauro, who refused them entry to the home.

They later returned with a warrant and they allegedly found methylamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis, two Tasers, a gel blaster, various ID cards as well as $20,000 inside a safe.

Accused thought it was a toy

Ms Mauro faced court charged with 13 offences including drug supply, possessing a prohibited drug, dealing with proceeds of crime, possessing or using a prohibited weapon and possessing an unauthorised firearm.

The 28-year-old's lawyer said custody would be "onerous" for her client, who suffered from borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder.

The court was told Ms Mauro denied knowledge of the items found in her home, claiming she thought the gel blaster was a "kid's toy".

The court also heard she had been hospitalised with a blood infection just weeks before her arrest.

Magistrate Jillian Kiely refused her bail, citing Ms Mauro's prior criminal history and the availability of mental health services in jail.

Ms Mauro sobbed loudly throughout the proceedings and could be heard over a video link repeating "they're not mine, they're not mine".

She will face court again in July.
