Police storm children's park after 'yellow bag' found

Police stormed a children's park on Tuesday after a "yellow bag" was found.

Merseyside Police received reports of "suspicious circumstances" at Mellanear Park in Bootle at around 2pm on Tuesday, January 4.

It had been reported that a yellow NHS medical waste bag had been found by members of the public on Lunt Road, next to the Liverpool & Leeds canal.

Police attended the park and set up a cordon while forensic enquiries took place.

It has been confirmed that no criminal offence took place and the bag was taken to hospital to be disposed of correctly.

In a statement, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "At around 2pm yesterday, Tuesday 4 January, we received a report of suspicious circumstances in Mellanear Park, Bootle.

"It was reported that a yellow NHS medical waste bag, containing medical waste, had been found by members of the public on Lunt Road, next to the canal.

"Officers attended and a scene was in place while forensic enquiries were carried out.

"No criminal offences were found to have taken place and the bag was taken to hospital to be disposed of correctly.

"The scene has now been stood down."
