Police stopped man who stank of cannabis and caught him with thousands of pounds of drugs and cash

A drug dealer who smelled strongly of cannabis was caught with thousands of pounds worth of drugs and cash.

Christopher Lloyd, 31, was stopped by police in the Cefn Glas area of Bridgend on the evening of January 23 because he was acting suspiciously.

He smelled strongly of cannabis and when searched by officers was found with two pots of the Class B drug in his trouser pockets.

A search of his house then uncovered thousands of pounds' worth of heroin and cannabis and bundles of cash totalling £7,358.

Officers found two wraps of heroin totalling 6.75g and 409g of cannabis. The cannabis was estimated to have a potential street value of £4,090.

Lloyd appeared in Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday, June 5, and was was jailed for four years after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and cannabis and using, possessing, or acquiring criminal property.

What is cannabis?

Detective inspector Sarah Trigg from South Wales Police said: “Drugs continue to blight our local communities and we want to make it clear that the use and supply of controlled drugs in Bridgend will not be tolerated. We will stop, search and disrupt those who do deal drugs at every given opportunity.

“This result is thanks to the efforts of officers from Bridgend’s neighbourhood policing team and Bridgend’s organised crime unit.

“We will act on all information received by members of the community and I would urge those with concerns about drug supply to call us on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
