Police stop 'stolen' Range Rover with cloned plates in Manchester city centre

One person has been arrested after police stopped a Range Rover that had been reported stolen in Manchester.

The car had reportedly been the subject of a keyless theft at the Marriott near Manchester Airport.

False plates and a cloned key had been added to the vehicle - but officers were able to safely stop the car and avoid a pursuit, said Greater Manchester Police (GMP) City Centre on Twitter in the early hours of Saturday morning.

"#GMPTransportUnit #AReliefXM and #CReliefXM with some great teamwork, identifying and safely stopping this outstanding stolen Rangey (keyless theft from Marriott Hale) on false plates with a cloned key, whilst preventing a pursuit in the City. 1 arrested.”

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, a car is stolen from an owner every 11 minutes somewhere in the UK.

DVLA data shows that the Ford Fiesta Zetec (418) was the most stolen car in 2021, with Range Rover Sports in third (315).
