Police stop risky driver with loose sofa hanging out of van

Avon and Somerset Police officers were forced to stop a driver putting others at risk with a dangerously loaded van.

The motorist had been taking an old sofa to the tip but had not secured the piece of furniture correctly in place.

The Avon and Somerset Police Road Policing and Road Safety Team were forced to pull the vehicle over on Saturday afternoon (January 8).

The open doors on the vehicle were partially obstructing the stop lamps.

On top of this, there was only a bungee cord securing the load in place, besides its own weight.

It was putting a risk to other motorists on the road and was, therefore, pulled over by officers today.

The incident was shared on Twitter by the Road Policing team who said: "Taking your old sofa to the tip? Make sure it's correctly secured to prevent it from being a risk to other road users.

"The open doors partially obstructed the stop lamps and only a bungee cord secured the load other than its own weight."
