Police stop over 60 drivers on one Leeds road and ask them to prove they have a reasonable excuse for travel

Over 60 cars were stopped on one Leeds road by police over the weekend who were checking whether they had a reasonable excuse for their journey.

Officers from Leeds West Neighbourhood Policing Team revealed on Facebook that a traffic operation was conducted last weekend on Carr Road in Calverley.

During the operation, over 60 cars were stopped and two £100 coronavirus fines were issued by West Yorkshire Police.

Under the coronavirus rules, travel is permitted if you have a reasonable excuse and people have been asked to Stay At Home in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Two tickets for failure to maintain headlamps as well as two traffic offences for no MOT and no insurance and one seizure of a vehicle for no insurance were also handed out.
