Police stop idiot driver doing 102 mph on icy roads with passengers in the car

A reckless driver was stopped by police doing a ridiculous 102mph in icy conditions.

Police clocked the Audi driver using a speed gun on the A14 in Newmarket, with three passengers also present in the vehicle.

The driver is now likely to face a lengthy ban and a fine following the incident, with police confirming that they would be due in court.

Conditions were also treacherous at the time of the incident, with the -6 conditions meaning that it was highly likely there would be ice on the road.

A spokesperson for Norfolk & Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing Team said: "The driver of this vehicle has been stopped & reported for driving at 102mph on A14 Newmarket

"He will now face court to explain why he was driving at that speed in -6 degree conditions with 3 passengers on board."

People reacted with a mixture of disbelief and anger on social media.

One person posted: "Absolutely NO WORDS. If they want to kill themselves fine ! But these “People” are selfish beyond belief. Someone has to scape them & others off the road."

Another wrote: "Unbelievable speed, and in these treacherous conditions. As a Nurse I support clients with life changing injuries and very grateful for all you do to try to keep our roads safer. Thank you."

Conditions in winter mean that driving can often become a lot more dangerous during the cold months.

A combination of poorer visibility as well as slippery patches of ice on the road make for a potentially lethal combination to unwary motorists.

One report even suggested that one in five motorists even avoid driving in the winter months altogether over concerns about safety on the roads.

It all adds up to make the prospect of exceeding 102mph in such dangerous conditions even more astounding.
