Police stop family from London going to Motherwell for "holiday" during lockdown

A family from London have been caught attempting to sneak into Motherwell for a lockdown holiday.

Four people were caught on the M6 at junction 43 near Carlisle as they made the 800-mile round trip for a three day break.

Officers from the Cumbria Roads Police division stopped the silver Ford Focus car and reported them for breaching coronavirus lockdown rules.

After speaking to the family, who were already four hours into their journey, cop asked them to return to London.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Road Police said: “This car has just been stopped on the M6 north at J43.

“It had a family of four on board heading from London to Motherwell for a three day break, an 800 mile round trip.

“All four reported for Covid breach and advised to return to London.”

It comes just a day after a Scots driver was rumbled by cops as he made a 524-mile round trip to collect a new car during lockdown restrictions.

The lockdown lout had set off on his initial journey of more than four hours from  Glasgow  to Strafford in the Midlands on Thursday.

But he was rumbled by officers shortly after crossing the border into England at Cumbria
