Police stop cars driving to Penarth Marina amid complaints about people driving to Cardiff Bay

Police stopped cars in Penarth Marina on Saturday amid complaints about people driving to Cardiff bay for exercise as level 4 coronavirus restrictions continue.

Wales' level four lockdown has a number of restrictions in place in order to decrease the number of coronavirus cases across the country.

The restrictions state that exercise should start and finish from home and that nobody should be travelling unless essential.

Officers have been seen patrolling parts of Penarth several times since restrictions were introduced.

Last month the situation got so bad in the town that police closed off the Esplanade due to 'too many people'.

Residents living in the Marina have also claimed that they can't step outside their front doors due to the droves of people visiting Penarth, despite restrictions.

This weekend, police were pictured stopping cars heading to the marina and speaking to motorists and establish that all journeys were essential.

Officers were pictured on the Esplanade, as well as the main route to the Marina. Pictures show dozens of cars lined up as officers speak to drivers.

Officers are also thought to have been stationed at the town yesterday. Police tweeted urging the public not to travel to the area for exercise and said they were working with The Vale of Glamorgan council to enforce restrictions.

Penarth is just one area in South Wales where officers are patrolling to ensure coronavirus restrictions are being adhered to.

In Porthcawl, mounted officers on horses were patrolling the seafront.

Today, South Wales Police said more than a dozen party-goers were handed fines for breaking Covid regulations after they booked a local AirBnB rental for a late night houseparty.

The Swansea bash was brought to a halt by officers on Friday night after they were called to an address in Sandfields.

Officers discovered a party in full flow and were quick to shut it down. But one of the female guests tried to stop police doing their job and is now "being dealt with" for obstructing a police officer.

Blasting their actions as "irresponsible", officers fined a total of 13 people for the coronavirus breaches and said: "Booking a local Airbnb for a party is irresponsible."

Last weekend, officers dealt with more than 200 ridiculous Covid breaches including a surprise party, a religious ceremony and a car park knees up.
