Police today said they are still trying to identify the man found in water at Salthouse Dock.

Merseyside Police were called to Salthouse Dock at around 3.55pm on Friday, March 25, following reports of a body being found in the water. A number of roads at the Albert Dock were cordoned off at the time.

The man was removed from the water but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Today, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said enquiries to identify the man "remain ongoing".

An investigation was launched and CCTV and witness enquiries were carried out in the local area. An area around the Dock was also cordoned off.

The cordon included a small section of The Strand, Salthouse Quay, Hartley Quay and Gower Street. Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the Coastguard were in attendance at the scene.

Dozens of police vehicles including cars and vans, along with a search and rescue unit from the Coastguard were within the cordon.

Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting log 641 of 25 March.
