Police still seeking witnesses to crash which killed teenager Daniel Davies

Police are still seeking witnesses to the car crash which killed Bristol teenager Daniel Davies months ago. The 16-year-old from Hanham died at 9.45pm on April 17, when his moped collided with a car on the A4174 Wraxall Road roundabout in Warmley.

Following his death, a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

And police say they are still keen to the driver of a silver or beige Vauxhall Insignia which had stopped at the traffic lights on the roundabout at the time.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "If you saw the collision or have dashcam footage please get in touch. If you can help, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5222091120, or complete our online appeals form."

In April, tributes were left on the road where Daniel died. A card with pictures of the young man was attached to a post, with the words: "Forever in our hearts. Rest in peace."

At the time, the leader of South Gloucestershire Council, Cllr Toby Savage was asked to defend the new through-about in a media interview. Just a few months before the fatal crash, locals slammed the council for investing £6.9 million on upgrading the roundabout, and residents said 'more needs to be done to make the ring road safe'.

But Cllr Savage urged people not to jump to conclusions and insisted through-abouts are safe and work well in other parts of the country.

Asked by a BBC Radio Bristol listener on the John Darvall show in April whether he still thought through-abouts, also known as hamburger roundabouts, were a good idea, he said: "It’s difficult for me to say a huge amount on this given there is a police investigation and there was an individual arrested for dangerous driving, so I can’t comment specifically on this particular incident and what may or may not have contributed to it. But more broadly on through-abouts, while this was the first not only in South Gloucestershire but also the wider region, they have been used in many other parts of the country and they work very well."
