Aug. 04--Palos Park police are still looking for the owner of a pit bull that was found abandoned on a road last week, but they said they've heard from many people eager to adopt the dog.
A resident called police after watching a dark blue sport utility vehicle stop on Old Creek Road, west of Wolf Road, and let a white and brown pit bull mix out of the vehicle late Thursday or early Friday, police reported. The resident told police that he saw the dog follow the car, running and barking, as it drove away toward Wolf Road.
Police tracked the dog down and brought it to the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge, according to police. They said the dog appeared uninjured but didn't have a chip that could lead to its owner.
Police Chief Joe Miller said police were looking at footage from cameras at homes in the area but have not yet identified the driver. The dog is doing well, he said, and is still at the animal shelter, though police have gotten "lots of inquiries on adoption."
Police are asking that anyone with information about the dog call them at 708-671-3700 or 708-448-2191.
Anyone who is unable to take care of a pet can surrender it to police or an area animal shelter rather than abandoning it, police said.
