Police still hunting prisoner nearly three weeks after he fled court dock mid-sentence

Police are still hunting for a jailbreaker nearly three weeks after he burst out of a court dock and escaped when he was told he was going to prison.

Nathan Oloyowang, 22, has been on the run since he appeared at Wood Green Crown Court in north London on June 4 to be sentenced for dangerous driving.

Upon hearing he would spend 10 months behind bars he smashed through the Perspex screen and sprinted out of the court building before security could catch him.

One guard suffered a hand injury trying to detain him after he climbed out of the dock and ran down three flights of stairs.

Metropolitan Police said: "On Friday 4 June at about 15:30hrs at Wood Green Crown Court, a 22-year-old man was sentenced to ten months in prison for dangerous driving.

"On receiving the custodial sentence he climbed out of the dock and in the course of the incident the dock perspex was broken and a member of court security received slight injuries to his hand.

"The man then made off from the court."

A Serco spokesman said: "Following sentencing, a prisoner escaped from the insecure dock at Wood Green Court last Friday afternoon, scaling the dock and breaking the glass in the process."

Oloyowang lives in Camden, north London, and is described as black, 6ft 1in with short dark hair.

Police have advised the public not to approach him if they see him, but to call 999 immediately.

The breakaway is the second to hit Wood Green crown court in just five months - and the striking similarity between the two incidents is likely to raise concerns about court security.

In January, dangerous driver Marian Vasilica Dragoi, 19, launched a desperate escape bid from the dock in court nine.

Dragoi vaulted a chest-high barrier and made it down four flights of stairs before he was apprehended by security who spotted him approaching on CCTV.

Oloyowang, of Adelaine Road, Swiss Cottage, denied and was convicted of dangerous driving and sentenced to ten months.

Anyone with other information about his whereabouts can call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC giving the reference 5033/04JUN.

Information can also be given to Crimestoppers anonymously online or by calling 0800 555 111.
