Inspector John Picton, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “This was a frightening incident in broad daylight which thankfully has not caused any injuries but will have caused great shock in the community.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are treating this very seriously and have increased the number of high-visibility patrols in the area and a cordon remains in place while our enquiries continue.

“We have made two arrests but are keen to ensure we ascertain as many details as we can about this incident and I therefore encourage the public to get in touch with any information they can that may aid our investigation.”

He spoke before police arrested a third suspect.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 6063 quoting incident number 1992 of 20/05/2020. Details can also be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
