Police step in after parked cars clog up A702 and other routes near Pentland Hills

Police say they'll be carrying out patrols near the Pentland Hills following complaints about parked cars clogging up the area and making conditions dangerous.

Officers have been made aware of people leaving their vehicles on the A702 at Flotterstone resulting in "safety and congestion concerns".

They are warning people only to park in designated car park spaces, and say they'll be conducting checks to make sure nobody is breaking the rules.

Midlothian Police also posted on social media this morning to make people aware that the Flotterstone car park in Midlothian is full, while the Castlelaw car park is inaccessible due to ice.

They add: "The A702 between Glencorse and Mauricewood is subject to a Clearway, meaning no stopping in this area is allowed. Please park with care and stay safe."

Edinburgh Live reported on Tuesday how locals were unhappy at the number of cars parked on routes around the Pentlands, particularly in the Balerno area.

Dash cam footage shows hundreds of vehicles stopped at the side of roads, with some people claiming the scene shows "inconsiderate" parking.

People have been flocking to the area for exercise with gyms currently closed due to level four lockdown restrictions, and many still off work during the festive break.
