Police statement on serious Horsforth New Road crash in Leeds

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after crashing his motorbike in Leeds.

The accident happened on Horsforth New Road at around 2pm today and the road was closed in both directions for over three hours.

West Yorkshire Police said the man, in his fifties, was treated at the scene but taken to hospital for further assessment.

He currently remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The road was closed at around 2.25pm and had caused congestion stretching back to Kirkstall, Calverley and Greengates.

The road was reopened at 5pm but there remains a great deal of congestion as drivers attempt to divert.

West Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called to a report of a male who had come off his motorbike on the Farsley Ring Road/Rodley Lane at about 2pm today.

"The male, in his fifties, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital to be further assessed.

"Police closed the road while enquiries were being made into the incident.

"The male remains in hospital where his condition is said to be stable."
