Police statement as murder enquiry launched after man stabbed in St Paul's

Police have launched a murder enquiry following the death of a man in St Paul's.

A man was found stabbed and in a critical condition by police and ambulance crews shortly before 6pm this evening (Friday, June 21) at the junction of Ashley Road and City Road.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics and air ambulance staff, he passed away at the scene.

A man in his 20s has since been arrested in connection with the incident, and Avon and Somerset Constabulary have officially launched a murder enquiry.

A police spokesperson said: "A murder enquiry has been launched after the death of a man in the St Paul’s area of Bristol today.

"We were called at around 5.50pm to reports of a serious assault at the junction of Ashley Road and City Road.

"On arrival a man was found in critical condition after suffering stab wounds. The air ambulance and paramedics attended but sadly the man was pronounced dead just before 6.30pm.

"A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident.

"The area is closed from Lower Ashley Road and traffic diverted while forensic examiners investigate."
