Police have issued a statement after officers taped off a pub in Nottingham's Old Market Square.
The cordon surrounds the Joseph Else Wetherspoon pub and neighbouring buildings.
A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Nottinghamshire Police was called at around 11pm last night (July 16) to reports of an altercation in South Parade, Nottingham.
“No arrests have been made and a scene is in place while officers investigate the circumstances.
“A man was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not thought to be life-threatening or life-altering.”
A spokesman for Wetherspoon said: “The Joseph Else is closed, and has been closed, since late last night following an incident at the pub.
“The police are investigating and Wetherspoon will be working with the police to ensure the matter is dealt with.”
People in the area were left shocked by the police presence.
Dunstan Victor, 70, from St Ann’s, said: “I often come into town and I never see any problems. It is shocking. But I feel quite safe.”
