Police statement as man dies in Call Lane, Leeds

Police have confirmed a man has died despite desperate attempts to save him in a Leeds city centre street.

Emergency services raced to Call Lane today at about 3.30pm after a man was found in an alleyway unconsicious.

Police and paramedics were at the scene since from 3.30pm up until now.

A woman who works in a bar in Call Lane told LeedsLive: “They all turned up at about 3.30pm.

"They came rushing down the road. They were down the alleyway and were giving CPR to someone. They have been there ever since.”

However, there was nothing the police and paramedics could do to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called by the ambulance service at 3.43pm to reports of an unresponsive male.

"He was pronounced dead a short while later and inquiries into the circumstances of his death remain ongoing."

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting 1102 of March 9.
