Police have released a statement after a major street in Nottingham city centre was closed after a man was hit by a bus.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on Sunday, May 2, in Burton Street, close to the Cornerhouse and The Royal Centre.

East Midlands Ambulance sent four vehicles to the scene.

Police said the road will be closed while a detailed investigation is under way, with no estimated time on when it will reopen.

Officers investigating the incident are also calling for witnesses to come forward to determine what has happened.

A man in his 60s has been sent to hospital for treatment.

Police said at the moment it is not known what his condition is, but updates will follow.

Police said they were called to the scene at 2.30pm over reports 'a man was in collision with a bus.'

Inspector Richard Guy, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We are currently investigating the circumstances of this collision.

"We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened.

"Investigations are continuing at the scene and traffic restrictions will be lifted once they have been completed."

Travel site Inrix reports 'slow traffic' in the area as a result of the collision.
