Police statement as helicopter and armed officers search for gunman in Harehills

Police launched an extensive search to find a man with a gun concealed in his clothes in the Harehills area of Leeds.

A police helicopter was called in to assist in the search for the suspect, who was spotted on Harehills Lane in possession of a firearm shortly after 1pm today (Thursday).

Police said nobody is believed to have had been threatened by the man, despite a post on social media suggesting a woman had the gun pulled on her.

The search concluded without the suspect being found but police say enquiries are ongoing.
