Police statement as full-scale search carried out over reports of death on rail line near Newark

Police were called to railway tracks after reports of a young person killed near Newark - which turned out to be a 'near miss'.

The incident took place on Sunday, June 13.

A full search of the lines near Newark was undertaken by British Transport Police, Nottinghamshire Police and the National Police Air Service Midlands team.

After the search, the incident was later classed as a "near miss" rather than a death as was originally reported to police.

The force has urged the public to be very careful around railway tracks and never to "play" anywhere near them.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police Lincolnshire said: "Officers attended a report of a young person having been killed in the vicinity of Newark this evening [June 13]. Full line search assisted by British Transport Police Nottingham, Nottinghamshire Police and NPAS Midlands and thankfully classed as a 'near miss'.

"Please don’t play on or near the railway lines, it isn’t worth it."
