Police statement as 'boy in distress' driven away in back of car by men at Morrisons

A young boy who was visibly 'distressed' was seen being driven away in the back of a car from a Leeds supermarket.

West Yorkshire Police have issued a statement after a witness called them with concerns over the welfare of the boy, who was seen in the car with two men at the Morrison's supermarket at the Penny Hill Centre, Hunslet.

Police received the call at around 3.52pm yesterday from a member of the public. Today, more than 24 hours later, a large police cordon remains in place in the car park. Read live updates here.

The witness say the two men drove away with the boy in the back of the car.

Customers and employees at the Morrison's store were shocked to see a large area of car park cordoned off by the police.

In an official statement, the force said: "At 3.52pm yesterday (12/11) police were contacted by a member of the public who reported seeing a male youth in distress with two men in a car in the car park of the Morrison’s supermarket, at the Penny Hill Centre, Hunslet, before being driven away.

"Enquiries have been carried out which have established that the incident was domestic-related. Two men have been arrested and are currently in custody."

We will update with more information as we have it.
