Police statement after man reportedly seen 'taking photos of children in Downend park'

Police have issued a statement following reports a man was taking pictures of children in a Downend park.

A man posted on the Mangotsfield Matters Facebook group to share concerns about an incident which happened on September 26 at King George V Playing Fields, off Westerleigh Road.

He wrote: "At approximately 4pm in King George V Playing Fields, this fella walked into the parking area and I caught him staring at my seven-year-old son until he spotted me.

"He walked to the wooden fence around the car park then took his phone out and proceeded to take photos of other school children before turning and leaving the park."

The park is close to both Stanbridge Primary School and Downend Secondary School.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "We were called by a member of the public concerned about a man who appeared to be taking pictures on his phone while on King George V Playing Fields at about 4.15pm on Thursday (September 26).

"While we’re grateful to the member of the public for reporting their concerns, we had no reason to attend as no offences had taken place."
