Police statement after car crashes into shop on major Nottingham city centre road

Police have issued a statement after a car crashed into a shop in Nottingham city centre, causing extensive damage.

Officers were called to Derby Road just after 2am on Monday, December 27, following reports of a car crashing into the Dream Wedding Dress bridal shop.

The western part of the Canning Circus one-way system remains closed off currently but it is understood the vehicle has now been recovered and the shop has been fenced off.

Nottinghamshire Police have issued a statement confirming they were called to the incident.

A spokesperson said: "No arrests have been made and there have been no injuries. Officers were called out at 2.09am this morning.

"It appears to have been one vehicle involved in the building. Structural engineers are on site and the vehicle is being recovered."

John Lynch, contract director at Newline Demolition, added: "We were called out at around half 3, and we brought props to prop the building up.

"The people living above have had to go to a nearby Premier Inn. We will clear the footpath and the road."
