Police spotted in Brislington as locals find road taped off

A large emergency service response took place in part of Bristol with multiple police officers and vehicles spotted locally. A number of people said there was "loads of police" along West Town Lane, Brislington, yesterday evening (May 21).

Paramedics and the police helicopter were also spotted in the area near the Tesco supermarket. Part of the area was taped off while investigations were carried out, although the cordon has been removed this morning.

Video taken from a passing car shows the road being blocked off by a police car with its blue lights on as officers appear to be talking to people. Locals told BristolLive they had seen "armed officers" patrolling the area.

It has been reported on social media that the incident involves a stabbing, but this has not been confirmed by the emergency services. Avon and Somerset Police has been approached for further details.

One eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, told BristolLive: "Loads and loads of police about in Brislington tonight with loads of armed police darting round. Also police helicopter up above Brislington.

"I had to turn around along West Town Lane and went down Callington Road and by the exit from Tesco. There were four police vehicles all stopped on stand by with lights on."

Another witness said: "West Town Lane shut to traffic with police cordon. Lots of police patrolling the Brislington area."
