Police spend third day at scene of young woman's death

Detectives have spent a third day at a home where a 37-year-old woman was suddenly found dead at the weekend.

A man, 34, was arrested on suspicion of murder, but after being quizzed by officers he was released on bail.

Police this afternoon stressed the tragedy at Walton Road, Walton, was being treated as unexplained.

A post-mortem examination was recently completed and the results were inconclusive, so more tests are being carried out to establish the cause of death.

The man and the woman were known to each other, it has been confirmed.

This morning, forensic experts in white suits were still inside the upper floor flat on Walton Road, which is accessed via a side entrance on Langham Street.

The scene on Langham Street remained sealed off with two scientific support vehicles and a police van stopping traffic entering the immediate area.

Businesses adjacent to the first floor flat, above a pizza fast food outlet, have been asked for CCTV footage which might shed light on any movement of people to and from the flat in the lead up to 9am on Sunday when the discovery was made.

It was said that investigators were keen to track any activity to the address from over the last month.

Today, people living nearby expressed their shock over the tragedy.

One woman said: "It's very sad.

"The people who live in the flats above the shops often don't stay there for very long, it tends to be short-term stays.

"It's three days now since police have been here in numbers, so there's a significant presence which has been worrying.

"God bless that woman, everyone's thoughts are with her family."

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Speight, of Merseyside Polide, said: “The death of the woman is currently being treated as unexplained.

“I would ask people not to speculate about the circumstances of this woman’s death while the investigation is ongoing as it can be hugely distressing for family and friends.”
