Police spend night 'keeping travelling criminals out of our patch'

The Police Service of Norther Ireland says proactive policing in Antrim and Newtownabbey last night helped to keep people safe while they slept.

Police in the district are keen to keep criminals out and are pursuing this policy as a priority in the opening weeks of 2022.

Antrim Neighbourhood Policing Team officers tweeted: "You don't know which road we will be found on next.

"District boundary roads are key to keeping travelling criminals out of our patch."

Earlier, officers had told the public: "We continue to patrol alongside our local policing team colleagues throughout the night.

"Be rest assured, while you are tucked up in bed or settled in front of the TV we are patrolling the district to keep you safe."

Meanwhile, overnight and into the early hours of today Carrick and Larne neighbourhood teams have been implementing vehicle checkpoints and providing high-visibility patrols "from Carnlough to Greenisland".

Echoing the force's earlier theme, they tweeted: "Keeping people safe, ensuring drivers are legal and are committed to sharing the road to zero."

Responding to one of the tweets, Debra Emeraldgal said: "I appreciate everything you do."
